A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess

Image
A Clockwork Orange is a dystopian satirical black comedy novel by English writer Anthony Burgess,   published in 1962 . A Clockwork Orange   tells the story of Alex, a Beethoven-mad thug with a lovely internal monologue. Eloquent in Nadsat, his teen argot, a heady mix of Russian, romany and rhyming slang, Alex narrates his career as the leader of a gang of “droogs”, Peter, Georgie and Dim. It is often said that these brutes derive from the mods and rockers, but Biswell shows conclusively that a deeper inspiration comes from Burgess’s wartime experience.    A brilliant and sinister opening of horrific “ultra violence” describes the gang on the rampage: terrorising a school teacher, beating a drunk, carving up a rival gang, stealing a car, and ransacking a country cottage, having tortured a harmless literary man and gang-raped his wife. After the sick brio of this opening, the novel settles into Alex’s subsequent incarceration in State Jail 84F...

Parasite - Bong Joon-ho

Image
Real Bloodsuckers: Parasite In the movie, which starts with images dominated by a general Asian and Asian life, we meet the KI-Taek family living in an old house and struggling to survive. The life of the family, who tries to survive by trying various ways, changes their life completely when the house son Kevin begins to teach a rich family with the help of a friend. Parasite, which pushed us to be a side in the first and second half, is a movie that wants us to believe that it is not at all and contains many different options. When we think that the family who are fond and try to survive enter the house with dishonesty, do their job properly and earn money, we think that they are like a “parasite” that gnaws the house. However, the movie wants us to reject this idea from the second half. So much so that capitalism rose in South Korea, as in the rest of the world, and the rich was richer and the poor were poorer.   Although the family we saw in Parasite c...

The Catcher in the Rye - J.D Salinger

Image
The Catcher in Rye is the ultimate novel for disaffected youth, but it's relevant to all ages. The story is told by Holden Caulfield, a seventeen-year-old dropout who has just been kicked out of his fourth school. Throughout, Holden dissects the 'phony' aspects of society, and the 'phonies' themselves: the headmaster whose affability depends on the wealth of the parents, his roommate who scores with girls using sickly-sweet affection. Lazy in style, full of slang and swear words, it's a novel whose interest and appeal comes from its observations rather than its plot intrigues (in conventional terms, there is hardly any plot at all). Salinger's style creates an effect of conversation, it is as though Holden is speaking to you personally, as though you too have seen through the pretences of the American Dream and are growing up unable to see the point of living in, or contributing to, the society around you. Written with the clarity of a boy leaving c...
